Hello and welcome to our website.
It became our ambition to achieve "The American Great
Loop" around 3 years ago. It was some-where between achieving
the 211 locks that the French canals had to offer and meeting
a couple of Canadian Yachties in the Hemmingway marina, Cuba.
Explaining they where heading south to explore the Caribbean,
and that they'd actually traveled from Lake Superior via the
Mississippi to their present location. Little did they or
we know, that we, with further enquiries and web searching,
we would discover the Great loop?
Having
left Europe in the spring earlier this year (2003) for St.Petersburg
on the gulf coast of Florida; we picked up our new boat "Duty
Free" a Maxum 4600 SCB Limited Edition. On Feb 1st and
traveling in an anticlockwise direction, we cruised south
until we reached Fort Myers, where turning left (West to East)
we joined the Okeechobee canal, "the Alligator Alley"
Reaching the Atlantic side of the USA we actually exported
our vessel to the Bahamas for 15 days. Having returned we
traveled north along the ICW (Intracoastal waterways) towards
New York, up the Hudson River until we reached Troy. At this
point we traveled east along the Erie Canal where we entered
the Great lakes at Oswega. Presently we are cruising east
and south along the Trent Severn canal in Canada towards the
North Channel, Georgian Bay and the 10,000 islands. After
leaving Mackinaw Island we’ll turn south down Lake Michigan
towards Chicago. Now inbound, south and homeward we will enter
into the Illinois, Mississippi, and Ohio rivers. At Memphis
we will continue on the Tenn.-Tom canal system until we once
again pick up the Intracoastal canal at Mobile, and to conclude
and head to our final destination, The Vinoy hotel in St.
Petersburg Florida.

You can follow our journey. The website is not a ships-log
but more of a dear diary with ups and downs in abundance,
even if you don’t know us and nothing about boating
you should find it quite interesting.
